Painting is like the act of poetry. It is a visual lifting of the senses into another experience that connects me in a new way to my world. It is like music. It is like dance. It brings the color of my senses onto the canvas. Trees express the energy of my surroundings. Sometimes this energy is peaceful, sometimes dynamic. It is always expressive. The shapes and shadows of bushes and trees play with the line and color and brush stroke. If I can hear, taste, smell, and feel a painting, I know I have succeeded in painting a poem.
